MassHousing recently approved $275,000 in grants to support 55 units of affordable sober housing in Amesbury, Lowell and Wrentham. The grants were made through the Center for Community Recovery Innovations (CCRI), a nonprofit subsidiary of MassHousing that supports affordable housing and related programs for individuals in recovery and their families.
Receiving CCRI awards were
- Gilly’s House, Wrentham, $75,000 to help acquire and renovate a home to create 22 new sober units for young men in recovery. Milford National Bank is a primary financing partner.
- The Megan House Foundation, Lowell, $125,000 to support the construction of nine apartments at Emma’s Place for young women in recovery and their children. The housing is being developed in conjunction with the Coalition for a Better Acre Community Development Corporation.
- Housing Supports, Amesbury, $75,000 to help rehabilitate 24 single room occupancy (SRO) units for men. Partners include the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston and Newburyport Savings Bank.
CCRI grants may be used to fund the creation or preservation of affordable, sober housing, and for programming that supports affordable, sober housing. To date, CCRI has awarded more than $10 million in grants for the creation or preservation of more than 2,100 units of substance-free housing in 50 communities.
