The Massachusetts Affordable Housing Trust Fund accomplished quite a lot in its first 10 years of operation.
Administered by MassHousing on behalf of the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development, the AHTF provides flexible financing to ensure the feasibility of rental, homeownership, mixed-use housing projects. It is primarily funded by state capital funds, although the Agency committed a total of $40 million from our working funds to the AHTF in 2007.
In its first 10 years, the Trust Fund has been an instrumental tool in creating and preserving affordable housing in Massachusetts, providing $215.7 million to 295 developments with 12,861 units, 10,822 (84%) of which are affordable. Without these awards, which leveraged millions of dollars in additional investments, many of these properties never would have made it off of the drawing board.
