Minority- and women-owned businesses are hard at work on MassHousing projects. In the first half of the 2017 fiscal year, which began July 1, 2016, a total of $202.3 million was spent on MassHousing-financed construction projects. Of that total, $40 million (20% of all expenditures) was spent with minority-owned subcontractors and $16 million (8%) with women-owned subcontractors.
MassHousing has a longstanding commitment to ensuring that all communities have equal access to the economic opportunities created by our work. Through our Diversity & Inclusion Division, we work with developers and general contractors to set and achieve goals for participation and partnership with minority, women, and other businesses in different communities and trades.
Three of those general contractors are new to MassHousing: Colantonio, Land Mark Construction Services and River Valley Properties. Each has made encouraging commitments to the minority- and women-owned subcontractor community.
"The impact of MassHousing financing extends beyond the homes we create," said Andrea Laing, MassHousing’s Director of Diversity & Inclusion. "Our dollars create jobs and opportunities for so many Massachusetts residents."
