Spanish-speaking homebuyers now have another resource for information and guidance on the homebuying process: "El Portal de MassHousing."
El Portal is a series of conversations with lenders, Realtors, homebuyer counselors, MassHousing staff and others who support affordable, responsible homeownership. The first four episodes, which are now available online, discuss MassHousing's programs for homebuyers, beginning the homebuying process, avoiding mortgage scams, and successful homeownership. Additional episodes will be posted shortly, addressing such topics as short sales, credit, using a Realtor and foreclosure prevention.
The El Portal series was part of MassHousing's larger effort to more effectively communicate with and attract qualified minority homebuyers who have been underserved by the traditional mortgage market and disproportionately preyed upon by predatory lenders. Along with El Portal, we've launched websites and social media channels in Spanish and Portuguese; sponsored events in the Hispanic, African-American and Asian communities; and run print, radio, TV and online ads in multiple languages.
